Located 10 kilometres south of Whangārei, Portland Kindergarten provides play-based early childhood education in a rural setting surrounded by magnificent views of Mount Manaia, Whangārei Harbour, and the wider countryside.
What We Offer
Our unique location provides tamariki with opportunities to observe and connect with the world around them every day: from ships travelling through Whangārei harbour, to aeroplanes arriving at Whangārei Airport and trains servicing the local Portland cement works.
These real-world experiences help spark curiosity, conversation, and learning through play and exploration.
Situated on the grounds of Portland School, tamariki also benefit from access to the school’s playing field and facilities, supporting strong community connections and positive transitions to school.
Children attend Portland Kindergarten from a wide rural area including Waiotira, Maungakaramea, Mangapai, Maungatapere, Poroti, Portland, and Otaika, creating a diverse and connected kindergarten community.
We value whanaungatanga and building strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, and the wider community.
We welcome new enrolments for tamariki aged two to four years and warmly invite whānau to come and visit our kindergarten community.
