Our Philosophy

At Mairtown, manaaki underpins everything we do, creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where tamariki are encouraged to build confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, and positive relationships through play.

We believe children are capable, competent learners and provide opportunities for tamariki to make decisions, take sensible risks, and develop mastery through exploration, repetition, and discovery.  

Strong relationships with whānau and community are central to our kindergarten culture.

Nature & Outdoor Learning

At Mairtown we provide many opportunities for tamariki to build a relationship with their natural world.  

As an Enviroschools kindergarten, we value Papatūānuku as an important kaiako and embrace learning for sustainability through meaningful connections with nature.  

Our Nature Programme has seen tamariki spending time immersed in their local environment for over ten years, immersed in the heart of our turangawaewae, learning at the foot of our Maunga, Parihaka and on the banks of our Awa, Hatea, with our older tamariki.

Our large grassed outdoor area provides ample opportunity for tamariki to explore, climb, be social or find a quiet space.
