Forty Years of Aroha, Learning and Joyful Discovery: The Story of Kerikeri Kindergarten
Today, we celebrate. Not just the years, but the people, the values, the vision.

Nau mai, haere mai.
At Ruawai Kindergarten, we believe children thrive in a natural, home-like environment where they feel safe, supported and inspired to learn. Our approach supports smooth transitions and nurtures holistic development, guided by Te Whāriki, the Early Childhood Curriculum of Aotearoa.
We are proud to offer a welcoming and inclusive learning space for up to 40 tamariki, supported by a dedicated team of five qualified ECE teachers and an administrator.
Our programme is centred on child-led learning, where tamariki are encouraged to follow their interests, explore freely and develop at their own pace. We foster a culture of respect, independence and responsibility through manaakitanga.
We view tamariki, kaiako, whānau and the wider community as equal partners in the learning journey. Strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do, supporting children to develop confidence, competence, and a sense of belonging.
Our natural environment provides children with the freedom to explore, interact and experiment socially. We encourage outdoor play in all weather, supporting resilience and a strong connection to the world around them.
With access to loose parts and open-ended resources, children develop creativity, problem-solving skills, interdependence and self-regulation within a trusting and supportive environment.
As a Green Gold Enviroschools kindergarten, our philosophy is guided by five key principles:
We embed these values into everyday experiences, empowering tamariki to care for the environment and understand their role as kaitiaki.
Our experienced team includes five fully qualified ECE teachers and an administrator who supports the daily running of the kindergarten. We are passionate about creating a positive, engaging learning environment where every child feels valued and supported.
Haere mai koutou. Come and visit us, spend time in our environment and experience our vibrant kindergarten community.
We look forward to welcoming you and your whānau.
