Located just 100 metres from the beach and nestled beneath the hillside near Te Marae o Waitangi, Waitangi Kindergarten is a community-focussed coastal kindergarten in the heart of the Bay of Islands where tamariki are supported to reach their full potential.
What we offer:
Children attend from across the wider Bay of Islands region, including Kawakawa, Opua, Russell, Haruru Falls, Kāretu, Oromahoe, and Pakaraka.
Our kindergarten community reflects a rich diversity of cultures, languages, backgrounds, and experiences, creating an inclusive environment where all tamariki and whānau are welcomed and valued.
Our child-focused and child-initiated programme is shaped by the principles of Te Whāriki and encourages tamariki to learn through curiosity, exploration, and play.
Whakawhanaungatanga is an important part of the pumanawatanga (morale, tone, pulse) of our kindergarten and we pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming centre where whanau are invited to contribute and participate in the daily programme.
We have three full-time and one part-time fully qualified and registered educators, with a part-time administrative staff member.
We are an Enviroschools kindergarten, acquiring bronze status in August 2019.
We continue to embrace and incorporate the enviroschools kaupapa of sustainable practices and whakawhanaungatanga daily within our programme as we work towards silver accreditation.
With the beach, bush, and local environment on our doorstep, our children develop an understanding of kaitiakitanga and respect for the world around them.
