With 25 kindergartens across Te Tai Tokerau, our purpose is simple: to enrich every child through kindergarten.
We believe every family should have access to high-quality early childhood education, regardless of their circumstances.
That's why NKA offers 30 hours of fees-free kindergarten each week, delivered by 100% qualified and registered early childhood teachers. Our kaiako meet the same professional standards as teachers in schools, bringing expertise, care and a genuine passion for helping children thrive.
Beyond our teaching teams, we also provide specialist support through our in-house Speech-Language Therapists and Early Intervention Advisor, working alongside whānau and kaiako to ensure children receive the support they need to flourish.
At NKA, play isn't simply something children do, it's how they learn.
Whether they're building with blocks, exploring water and sand, experimenting with science, creating artwork or solving puzzles with friends, every play experience helps develop important lifelong skills.
Through play, tamariki naturally build confidence, creativity, communication, resilience and problem-solving abilities. They learn to ask questions, test ideas and make sense of the world around them.

Nature plays an important role in learning at NKA.
Across our kindergartens, tamariki grow vegetables, care for gardens, compost food scraps, explore insects, observe the changing seasons and discover the natural world through hands-on experiences.
Many of our kindergartens also participate in Enviroschools and Nature Programmes, encouraging children to connect with their local environment and develop an understanding of kaitiakitanga – caring for the land, for others and for themselves.
Learning outdoors encourages curiosity, creativity and resilience while helping children develop a lifelong appreciation for the environment.
