Manaia View Kindergarten - K1 Teacher

Northland Kindergarten Association (NKA) is seeking a passionate, and inspiring Kaiako ready to make a difference in the lives of tamariki and whānau? Manaia View Kindergarten in Raumanga, Whangārei is seeking a teacher to join their team in a full-time K1 position. This position is to start as soon as possible.  

The kindergarten is located within the grounds of Manaia View School and is part of the Raumanga community. They are a place where learning is nurtured through connection – to people, to whenua, and to the aspirations of the community.  

Manaia View Kindergarten caters for 30 children aged 2–6 years, operating Monday to Friday, and is staffed by a team of four kaiako, a part-time administrator, and a cook. The team is committed to creating a warm, respectful, and responsive environment where tamariki are empowered to investigate, explore, and make sense of their world.

With around 90% of tamariki having Māori heritage, their teaching and learning are deeply grounded in Te Ao Māori. Their philosophy is shaped by the values of Aroha, Ngā Hononga, Manaaki, and Hiringa, which are woven throughout they daily practice and relationships.

We are seeking a Kaiako who has:

  • A strong passion for, or deep connection to, te ao Māori perspectives and practices, with a commitment to embedding tikanga Māori and te reo Māori meaningfully in everyday interactions and curriculum.
  • An understanding of this community – its richness, its challenges, and its potential. Have an understand of diverse learners, apply trauma-informed practice, and advocate for whānau navigating low socio-economic realities, including collaboration with wider support networks for awhi and care.
  • A love for the outdoors and the value of risky play. Supporting tamariki in deepening their relationship with the whenua and find joy in playful exploration.
  • A reflective and thoughtful approach, grounded in a strong theoretical base, with openness to learning and a drive to grow as a change-maker.  
  • A calm and steady presence under pressure. That values a peaceful, emotionally resilient approach that upholds a positive, empowering image of the child and fosters respectful relationships.

Northland Kindergarten Association adheres to the employment conditions as offered in the Kindergarten Teacher, Head Teachers and Senior Teachers Collective Agreement 2023-2026.

Applicants must hold a recognised New Zealand ECE qualification, a current Practicing Certificate and First Aid certificate.
