Kerikeri Kindergarten offers a rich, child- and teacher-led learning environment grounded in Te Whāriki. The teaching practice empowers tamariki with choice and agency, enabling them to construct their own learning through meaningful experiences, exploration, and discovery. Kerikeri kindergarten believe that through play and inquiry, children develop and refine their own theories about the world.

Their commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is central to practice. Kerikeri embrace Te Ao Māori, protect te reo Māori, and value partnerships with whānau, hapū, and iwi, ensuring these principles are woven into daily learning.

As an Enviro schools kindergarten, they empower children to learn for sustainability, honour Māori perspectives, respect diversity, and nurture thriving communities. The stunning outdoor environment fosters a deep respect for Papatūānuku, promoting nature-based learning and sustainable practices.

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Is committed to supporting and strengthening a Te Ao Māori learning environment for ākonga
  • Builds and maintains authentic, respectful, and professional relationships with tamariki, whānau, and colleagues
  • Is self-motivated, shows initiative, and works collaboratively as part of a team
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the kindergarten community
  • Brings enthusiasm, warmth, and a sense of fun to their teaching practice

Kerikeri Kindergarten is part of a network of 25 kindergartens within the Northland Kindergarten Association (NKA). The kindergarten is supported by professional practice and management teams. NKA adheres to the employment conditions outlined in the Kindergarten Teachers, Head Teachers, and Senior Teachers Collective Agreement 2023–2026.

Applicants must:

Hold a recognised New Zealand ECE qualification (minimum Dip Teaching ECE), hold a current practising certificate and first aid certificate, and be currently residing in NZ and eligible to work in NZ.
