Kerikeri Kindergarten

Kia ora,

At Kerikeri Kindergarten we embrace the Reggio Emilia approach. Teachers have travelled to Melbourne and Italy on study tours and we have developed our own special culture by combining contemporary theories and practices with our New Zealand curriculum Te Whaariki. We are a dynamic and innovative team who continually evaluate and reflect on our practice and the environment (the third teacher), to encourage children to develop their own working theories and to develop higher level thinking.

We believe that "the community is the umbrella for the child" (Rinaldi), so travel out into the community and have many specialists coming into the kindergarten to work with the children.

We have a roll of 40 children, 5 teachers - Head teacher, Cheryl Kingi and teachers Karen Martin, Sheryl Hughes, Irene Callen and Jo Johanson (.7) We have a full time support person Kerry Groome.

December 2011

Thank you to our wonderful community for your support - Monika Welch for art, the Evans family for music, Sandrine for ceramics....and oh so many more. Thank you to the people who allowed us to come to your place to learn more about our community.

Thank you to the community and Kerry Groome for producing another telephone directory. Where would we be without it?

Congratulations to Sheryl Hughes for being awarded an NKA Kauri Scholarship    and to Cheryl Kingi for being nominated for a National Excellence in Teaching Award.

Our last day of term 4 this year is 22nd Dec 2011

Our first day of term 1 next year is Tuesday 24th January 2012

At the beginning of term 1 we should be in our new offices and have a refurbished kitchen, resource room and a whanau room. After that comes the outdoor redevelopment. Yay! Exciting times.
