We are a sessional kindergarten with 4 trained teachers and have 40 children in the morning session and 35 in the afternoon session. Children attending our kindergarten come from both urban Kamo and rural areas surrounding. Hurupaki is a popular kindergarten with a waiting list and children tend to be around three years of age upon starting.
Children start attending the afternoon session initally. Once a vacancy occurs in the morning, the eldest child at afternoon is usually offered the position.
We have a wonderful large outdoor play area overlooking Hurupaki Mountain and Hurupaki Primary School with plenty of space for the children to engage in physical movement experiences. We work closely with Hurupaki School to aide a smooth transition for children who will move on there when they turn five.
We were the first kindergarten in New Zealand to have been awarded Active Movement Gold accreditation and have recently begun implementing a Perceptual Motor Programme into our daily routine. See our information booklet below or this website for further information on this programme www.movingsmart.co.nz/home/schools/pmp/

We have four qualified and registered teachers with current First Aid Certificates and a low teacher child ratio of 1:10. We have an office administrator also with a First Aid Cert who works 26 hours a week.
20 free hours available for all children over 3 years attending the kindergarten.
